Working guide

A judicial campaign relies on public forums, community conversations and plain educational material, and the rules on what candidates and supporters may say vary by state. Plan the operations around the approval steps your counsel sets, not around the calendar alone. Give each forum, page and host request an owner, a review step and a written record of what was approved.

Timeline

A forum calendar that starts with the rules review

  1. Before any public statement or request

    Confirm the conduct rules first

    • Ask counsel to confirm the conduct and disclosure rules that apply in your state and court.
    • Write down who approves each biography, endorsement request, forum answer and public statement.
    • Record which statements counsel has approved, and keep that list with the campaign documents.
    Documents
  2. 10 to 6 weeks out

    Request forums and listening sessions

    • Ask hosts for forum dates and the rules they set for candidates and audience questions.
    • Show each event as requested until the host confirms the date, place and format in writing.
    • Add confirmed events to the calendar with the address, start time and reply deadline.
    Calendar
  3. 6 to 4 weeks out

    Prepare public education pages

    • Draft flyers and an event page from approved facts and approved wording only.
    • Have a second reviewer compare every page with the approved list before it goes live.
    • Leave out any claim that counsel has not reviewed, even when it would sound helpful.
    Content Creator
  4. 4 to 2 weeks out

    Open host and supporter interest

    • Publish one form for community hosts and another for volunteers, each stating a response time.
    • Ask attendees for permission before any photos are taken or shared.
    • Confirm which messages the campaign may send, and send them only through its approved process.
    Forms
  5. Forum weeks and after

    Hold forums and follow up

    • Record the questions attendees asked, and flag any commitment that needs a follow-up.
    • Send follow-up messages only through the process counsel has approved.
    • Review the calendar after each forum for requests still marked as pending.

Where each forum job is recorded

JobAppWhat it does here
Track forum requestsCalendarEnter each requested forum as a pending calendar entry, and change it to confirmed only after the host writes back. Calendar invitations and RSVPs go to workspace members, so hosts and guests outside the workspace need their own invitation through the campaign's process. The entry is the record of what was agreed.
Approve public pagesContent CreatorGenerate one HTML page for a biography, an education explainer or an event page from the approved facts you supply. Have a second reviewer compare the page with the approved list before you publish its link. The output is one web page, not a PDF, and the page does not embed a form.
Collect host and volunteer interestFormsPublish one form for hosts and a separate one for volunteers, each stating when the team will reply. Submissions are stored and a scheduled job processes them hourly in production, notifying the form's creator. A person still decides whether a host can take an event, after counsel has reviewed any restrictions that apply.
Keep approved wordingDocumentsKeep approved statements, qualification summaries and disclaimers in one document, with the reviewer's name and the approval date. Pages should link to that document rather than hold their own copies. When counsel changes a point, update the source and check every page that used it.
Take forum notesNotesWrite notes during or after each forum, with the date, the host, the questions asked and any follow-up promised. Keep the notes factual and short. Flag each follow-up for review before anyone responds, so no commitment is made in passing.
Assign follow-up workTasksCreate one task for each follow-up, with an owner, a due date and checklist steps that include the approval check. Assign the work to a named person. A task records responsibility; it does not send anything on your behalf.

Pages and requests for forums and hosts

FAQ page

Answer questions about forums and hosting in plain words, once counsel has reviewed each answer.

Event invitation page

Give each forum a page with the date, place, format and reply deadline that hosts and guests need.

Event RSVP form

Track who plans to attend so a host can set the room, without treating RSVPs as a final guest count.

Photo media release

Record whether attendees agree to be photographed and for which uses, before any image is shared.

Venue booking request

Ask a community center for the date, times, headcount and room setup before a forum is announced.

Mistakes to avoid

Four ways a forum program gets ahead of its approvals

Scheduling forums before the rules are checked

Conduct rules for judicial campaigns vary by state, and they can affect what may be said, promised or published at a forum. Check them with counsel before accepting a host's invitation or publishing an event page. Attain OS does not interpret those rules, so the approval step has to be written into your process.

Publishing a biography without a second review

A page that describes qualifications, experience or positions carries more risk than a flyer about a date. Have a second reviewer compare it with the approved text and with the guidance your counsel gave you. Keep the approval record with the page, so a later edit cannot slip past it.

Treating a requested forum as booked

A host's interest is not a confirmed date. Keep requested events marked as pending on the calendar, and send the address and reply link only after the host confirms the date, place and format in writing. An RSVP shows who plans to attend, not whether the host has agreed.

Posting attendee photos without permission

People at a forum may not want their image shared, even at a public event. Use a photo release wherever you take pictures, and check with counsel which campaign uses it covers. Keep each accepted permission on the event record rather than on someone's phone.

Working checklist

Before a forum is announced and after each forum

Before a forum is announced

  • Confirm the host has confirmed the date, place and format in writing.
  • Check that counsel has reviewed the statements the event page uses.
  • Confirm who answers questions after the forum, and how.

After each forum

  • Save the notes with the date, host and questions asked.
  • Flag each follow-up for approval before anyone replies.
  • Review the calendar for entries still marked as pending.
What this agreement means

Keep the approvals ahead of the calendar

  • Judicial campaign conduct rules vary by state, so counsel sets the approval steps before the calendar fills.
  • Treat a requested forum as pending until the host confirms it in writing.
  • Keep approved statements in one document, and make every public page match it.
  • Use Calendar, Forms and Notes to track the work; counsel decides what may be said.

Check every conduct, disclosure and photo-permission rule with your own counsel. This calendar is a planning example, not measured timing or legal advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is a judicial campaign?

A judicial campaign is a campaign for a judicial office, such as a seat on a court. Its public work usually centers on forums, community conversations and educational material. The rules on what candidates and supporters may say differ by state, so check them with counsel before any event.

Do judicial campaigns follow the same rules as other political campaigns?

Not necessarily. Rules on conduct, disclosure and public statements for judicial candidates vary by state and sometimes by court. Ask counsel to confirm which ones apply before you plan events, publish pages or send invitations.

How do you organize a forum?

Start with the host's requirements, confirm the date, place and format in writing, and then set up the room and the reply process. Keep the event entry as the record, and send notices only through the approved process.

Can a judicial campaign use a volunteer scheduling tool?

Partly. Attain OS collects volunteer sign-ups and records shifts as calendar entries, but it does not assign shifts, check people in or decide what volunteers may say. Counsel's approved wording still governs every conversation.
